What Type Of Sleep Disorder Are You Experiencing?
There are two types of sleep disorders, Insomnia and Dyssomnia. Sleep is a critical component of our daily lives, and the lack of sleep can cause great damage to our bodies. Seek help for sleep disorders in order to treat the condition. Chiropractic can be an effective method of treatment for sleep disorders.
If asked, most patients would have a complaint of disrupted sleep at some time. Often they can relate this to a specific event such as a stressful incident, alcohol ingestion or pain (example low back pain). When it is a prolonged or chronic problem, the patient becomes concerned.
The International Classification of Sleep Disorders has created two primary categories of sleep disorders.
1. Insomnias - are sleep disorders that affect the ability of the patient to fall asleep or sleep disorders that result in excessive daytime sleepiness. Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder and it occurs more often in women and in the elderly.
2. Dyssomnias – are sleep disorders that interrupt sleep but do not result in excessive sleepiness during the day.
Note: These major sleep disorder categories do not include sleep disorders due psychological or other medical cause.
