"Originally, I came here because I injured myself in Special Forces training. I was wearing a ruck sack that weighed about 85 lbs. for hours and hours every day, day and night, miles and miles. It never came off. I was running and walking with it. I did this for 19 days total. I probably made it worse because the numbness, tingling and weakness happened about 8 days into it. I did not say anything because I was trying to be tough and make it through. If I didn’t make it through, then, I would have to go through it again. I only wanted to go through it once. I had to do this to be a Green Beret. They are Special Forces which are pretty much the most elite soldiers as well as Navy Seals in the military. These soldiers have the most physically demanding requirements. They are the front line in the war on terrorism I guess you could say. I had pinched a nerve and I had numbness and tingling in my left arm and weakness. I was so incredibly weak that I could not even curl 5 lbs. on my left and I could do 75 lbs. on my right. It was a huge difference. It was restricting everything. I could not shovel snow or carry groceries (only a loaf of bread and that was about it with my left arm). I was so weak that it was ridiculous. Anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant medication and trying to work out on my own did not work. If this continued, it would have ended my career. Not only would I not be able to go to be in the Green Beret Special Forces, but I would have to get out of the Army altogether. There would be no jobs that I could do. I would not be able to work out and do the CrossFit routines that I like. I would have to totally start from scratch and pick something different for a career. I figured it would be like throwing a dart at the dart board and saying, “Ok, I am going to be whatever now.” I would not be happy at all. Right after my very first adjustment, Dr. Gary re-tested my grip strength and my right arm increased almost 20 lbs. stronger! After that, I felt very optimistic. I came here and Dr. Gary made a lot of adjustments on me. My strength and mobility dramatically increased as the weeks went by. The pins and needles feeling went away. I am 100% better now. I felt like I was 100% better a few weeks ago. It has just been outstanding! I am going to keep coming from here on out. My experience at the office has been great. Dr. Gary is good at what he does. It is not just about me coming in here, getting my adjustments, paying my bill and leaving. He really cares about whether I am doing better or not. He helps me. I came in here with a problem and that problem is solved now. It is going to better my life and career and what not. He is in it to see people get better. It shows. It is great! Honestly, I have told this to a couple of people. I am here for life, you know what I mean, I am going to keep coming. I have been telling people and I am going to keep telling people. The whole staff has been an outstanding experience. I know a lot more now than I did before. I used to think that people go to chiropractors for back pain. Now, I see it is a lot more than that. It is a lot more than just getting adjustments."

"I am a professor at York College. I hurt my back helping a friend move in early December 2008. I felt I did something to my back and it will be fine in a few days. I was not sure what to do. I could not bend over to put on my shoes. I walk to work because the college is only about ¼ mile from my back door to my office. I was almost limping because my back hurt so much. After about three days, I was at the point where I could barely walk. At this point, I knew I had to go see a doctor. I went to my family doctor. She prescribed steroids and it wasn’t getting any better. She sent me to an orthopedic doctor where they took x-rays. They did not have anything to offer other than physical therapy. I did the physical therapy which helped with the stretching, but it still wasn’t really going away or getting any better. Even after trying all of the other methods of treatment, on a pain scale of 0=no pain and 10=being unbearable, my back was at a 7 or 8. Fortunately, my family doctor and the physical therapist approved of my seeing a chiropractor. They said that it was a good idea and I should pursue it. Of course, my wife, Allie, was constantly pushing me to come in. My wife has been coming here and she has been going to a chiropractor ever since she was a teenager. When she moved down here with me, she asked her chiropractor in Harrisburg, PA for a referral in the York area which is how she wound up in this office. So, I decided to come to see Dr. Harcourt. I am glad that I followed through and went ahead and finally came in here. Slowly, over the course of two weeks, I started noticing the pain was not in my foot, not in my shin, was less in the side of my leg, then it was just in my butt for a while. Now, it has moved out of my butt and in the localized area of my back. I had my re-test with % improvement. I must say it has helped immensely. In addition to my recent back injury, I have suffered with migraine headaches ever since I was a teenager. I did not even know they were migraines until about 15 years ago. Then, they still weren’t being treated with anything until about 10 years ago when I started taking Imitrex. I still suffered from the migraines. I had one really good adjustment to my neck and the release was really fantastic! Then, I went a week without a headache! I usually get them every day. I am definitely getting them less often. I am in the midst of starting to wean myself off of the Imitrex. I know I have to be careful. The other day, I was swinging a child on a tire swing, ran underneath her and re-aggravated my back. The cool thing is that was last Thursday and as I am sitting here right now, I have no pain at all. I feel very welcome. It is like a family. You girls are really good to my daughter Leah who I always seem to have with me. I love the people here and I love coming here. I look forward to it. It is a really friendly, happy, positive environment. Thank you Dr. Harcourt. You are a great guy. I enjoy talking to you. It seems like we do get to have some really cool conversations at the end. We discuss my interests in government and regulation and your view of the discipline of chiropractic medicine and how it is viewed in society. We have these sociological discussions about it. It is pretty cool. I enjoy it!"

"I was on vacation with my family in September 2008. We were sitting at a stop light, waiting for the light to change. Someone obviously was not paying attention and their vehicle rear-ended ours. My wife had immediate symptoms and sought chiropractic care. I had experienced symptoms approximately two weeks following the accident. I felt it was a good idea to get examined. I found out that I was not 100%. From there, I basically followed a therapy regimen with Dr. Gary. I was having lower back pain with the sciatic nerve being aggravated and swollen. When it flared-up, on a pain scale of 0=no pain and 10=unbearable, it was about a 7. It was very bothersome. Mostly, I had a lot of problems with sleeping and feeling exhausted as well as sitting in a car for a long period of time driving. I am a financial advisor with Morgan, Stanley, Smith- Barney which requires me to drive to various places. I started experiencing relief of pain within 3-4 weeks. The pain was under control and bearable. The flare-ups were not as significant. It went from a 7 on the pain scale down to a level 4 or 5. I knew we were definitely heading in the right direction. I was re-examined today and Dr. Gary indicated that I was better than 100%. I am back to pre-injury and pre-accident levels. I am feeling absolutely great! I want to tell others that are thinking about chiropractic that the one thing that made this not as severe for me was getting chiropractic treatment early. I did not want to wait and let it become a big problem. I really think that helped in my recovery because I was quicker at seeking care and Dr. Gary agreed as well. My ultimate fear was how long my healing was going to take. I just wanted to get better and I didn’t want it to be there. Thank you Dr. Gary! I also thank all of the staff who is fantastic. Because I am treated like family when I am at the office, I always knew I was NOT going to have a bad experience. I appreciate that. You have a good practice and I will recommend everybody to come to Harcourt Chiropractic Office. Thank you. It is great to be back to 100% or better!!! I am going to schedule my maintenance appointments to stay healthy."
