Approximately two and a half years ago I was injured at work while lifting some heavy weight without assistance. While holding the weight, I turned and felt a muscle pull in the area under my right shoulder blade. With no major discomfort, I continued to work that evening. Early the next morning I awoke with terrible pain in the area of the pull and a prickly numbness down my right arm, continuing into my hand and then into my little finger and outside half of my ring finger. I had lost about half of the strength in that hand. My company sent me to orthopedic doctors and sport therapy centers getting x-rays and an MRI. Therapy helped me regain the strength in the hand, but all efforts to regain normal feeling to it failed. I was unable to determine if the outside of my hand was resting on cloth, tile, wood, skin, hot or cold. I would have subsequent cramps and frequent pain spikes as well. I was finally told that nothing more could be done because the Ulna nerve (funny bone) must have died and would probably not be recoverable. I resigned myself to that fact. Six weeks ago I began to have sciatic pain in my left hip and pain in my right shoulder. I live near Lake Pointe and needed to address the problem because my job requires a great deal of walking. I explained my problem to Dr. Schreibman during my initial evaluation and she then asked me if I had any other issues. When I told her about my hand, she asked me if she could tackle all of my ailments, as she felt my older problem was not hopeless. I agreed, and after three visits for adjustments and massage, my hip and shoulder were back to normal and I had almost all the feeling back in my hand. At this writing, I am anxiously awaiting my next visit to tell her that within two days of my last visit, ALL of the feeling had returned to my hand and arm! Hopeless is not in her vocabulary.
